What it is
Beauty of Joseon builds its range around hanbang, the Korean herbal tradition, and rice water is
the ingredient it is best known for. This serum pairs a high percentage of rice bran water with
alpha arbutin, a brightening active that works on pigment gently rather than aggressively. The
result is a watery serum that hydrates and works on uneven tone at the same time.
What it is formulated to do
- Fade the look of dark spots and post-blemish marks over consistent use
- Even out overall tone and lift dullness
- Hydrate, with a dewy rather than tacky finish
Key ingredients
- Rice bran water 68% — the hydrating base of the formula
- Alpha arbutin 2% — a brightening active that interrupts how melanin is made
- Niacinamide — supports tone and the skin barrier
- Panthenol and glycerin — humectants that hold water in the skin
Who it suits
All skin types. The texture is light enough for oily and combination skin, and the rice water base
means dry skin does not find it stripping. Useful if your main concern is dark spots, post-acne
marks or a generally uneven tone.
How to use
- After cleansing and toner, apply two to three drops to the face.
- Pat it in gently rather than rubbing, and let it absorb.
- Follow with moisturiser.
- Sunscreen every morning. Dark spots do not fade while UV keeps feeding them.
Sources differ on whether to use it morning, evening or both. Morning and evening is common, and
evening only is also fine. Keep the dropper off your skin so the bottle stays clean.
Good to know
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, ask your doctor before starting any brightening active.
Patch test first if your skin is sensitive. If a spot changes shape, colour or size, see a doctor
rather than carrying on with a serum.
