What it is
Glycolic acid is the smallest of the AHAs, which is why it gets further into the skin and works faster than lactic or mandelic acid. At 7% in a toner, this is a proper exfoliant, not a gentle one. Used sensibly it transforms dull, rough skin; used carelessly it causes problems.

About The Ordinary
The Ordinary names the active and its percentage on the front of the bottle and leaves the
marketing off. That is the whole proposition, and it means you can see exactly what you are
buying. It also means the products are not cushioned the way a branded serum is, so introducing
one slowly and patch testing first matters more here than usual.
Key ingredients
- Glycolic acid 7%
- Aloe vera, ginseng and Tasmanian pepperberry, to temper the sting
Who it suits
Normal to oily skin that looks dull or feels rough. Not for sensitive, peeling or compromised skin.
How to use
- Evening only, once a day at most. Start two or three nights a week.
- After cleansing, soak a cotton pad and sweep over face and neck.
- Do not rinse. Keep it well away from the eye area.
- Follow with serum and moisturiser.
Important cautions
- This is an AHA, so it increases sun sensitivity and the risk of sunburn. Wear sunscreen daily while using it and for a week afterwards.
- Do not use it with other acids, with peptides, or with EUK 134.
- If you use retinol, use them on alternate nights, not together.
- Patch test before first use. Stop if irritation develops.
